C4real takes alderman welman into world-class virtual reality

Enschede Feb. 13, 2017 - Patrick Welman, alderman for Economy and Work of the municipality of Enschede went on a company visit to C4Real. The alderman described this Enschede-based company, which makes 3D animations and Virtual Reality applications for technology companies worldwide, as a hidden gem in Twente. Welman offered his help both from the municipality and from the Twente.com platform to make connections and put C4Real better on the map.

The company C4Real helps technology companies communicate their products simply and distinctively, virtually to customers. The alderman briefly found himself in such a virtual world during the company visit.

Visit C4Real

Some 15 years ago, the alderman was one of the first testers of the virtual reality glasses then available in the Netherlands. Now Welman noted that times have changed. During the visit, he did a VR training at C4Real that was developed for Apollo Vredestein in cooperation with sister company Serious VR. Welman: "I had the feeling that I was no longer at C4Real's office in Enschede, but that I was really standing in a Vredestein production hall operating a machine. That you can simulate this so lifelike, that is a revolution in the field of training."

During a tour of C4Real's studio, the alderman noted that, in addition to virtual reality and 3D animations, other visual applications are equally interesting. For example, he was allowed to put together a watch himself in an interactive 3D environment and view it from all angles, which can be used online as a sales tool.

Twente cooperation in India

Answer by Kuper when asked by the alderman which project he is most proud of answers Kuper: ''As a team, we are very proud of the campaign we conceived and created for Field in a Box by TenCate. A sports field, delivered in a container, that connects underprivileged children in different parts of the world through sports, giving them a better future. We went to the slums in Mumbai and Delhi to make a film. We also developed a 3D animation explaining the sports field and created an interactive 3D application where organizations can view the field in 3D. In this, organizations can, among other things, place their own logo on the boarding around the field to convince them to invest in this social project."

Software development or creativity

At least three times a week Welman goes on company visits to entrepreneurs in Twente to experience what is going on and to discuss with entrepreneurs how politicians can best support them. He wondered, for example, whether C4Real only employs designers. Director Ton Kuper's answer was that it is actually a mix of software developers and designers. The short lines of communication with the UT and Saxion ensure a good influx of talent and bonding with the region.

The alderman does see challenges due to competition in the labor market, but is mostly optimistic because of the knowledge that is present. C4Real will meet Welman soon at the Hannover Messe trade fair, where the company is jointly exhibiting with Serious VR in the section for Holland Hightech & Smart Industry. The municipality is present here with entrepreneurs from Twente and Gronau/Euregio.
