THE CHALLENGE OF THALES

For many years we have had an intensive collaboration with various business units within Thales. For the launch of a new innovative solution in space, they were looking for an impressive visual presentation. This presentation was not only used during the visit of delegations from all over the world, but also as an introduction for students and even schoolchildren. We developed a distinctive visual concept and spectacular 3D animation film that was deployed on a huge widescreen screen in Thales' most impressive presentation room.

Super widescreen

Thales' special presentation room, where four huge screens are linked together to form one large widescreen display, required specific content. The goal was to convey the new Space Situational Awareness solution in an impressive and moving way. By means of a presentation with video images, 2D and 3D animation, we provided insight into the added value of this system. The film was specially tailored for the enormous widescreen display. Important here was that if you have a very wide screen, you have to direct the images in a different way and make them move much more quietly. Otherwise, as a viewer, you can no longer follow it with your head because of the large surface area of the screen.

Watch the Space Awareness film

Job van Harmelen

Director of Communications, Thales

"Our goal was to make our vision of the future understandable in an impressive and moving way and get people excited about it. The film did that well because it really enters both hemispheres of the brain. It was truly a collaborative process to arrive at the solution and its creation. "

Translating complicated information into images

THE SOLUTION

We have a natural interest in understanding complicated information, technologies and techniques. In this video from Thales, which is about Space Awareness, we also quickly mastered the complicated information. By talking to the right stakeholders, such as the communications team, engineers, marketers and sales, we were able to map out the information and goals to then lay down a concept and storyline.

By talking to each other a lot, constantly honing the storyline and optimizing the visuals, we arrived at the final result.

Combination of specializations

THE PROCESS

For this film, three specializations were combined: film images, 2D animation and 3D animation. Together they are integrated to create an extraordinary overall image. Often reality is filmed as evidence or when it comes to the human aspect, but when we are talking about things floating through space, that becomes difficult. That's why 2D and 3D were also employed. This way you are completely free to visualize the image that best shows the added value of Thales Space Awareness.

Customized music contributes to experience

For almost all of our solutions, our musicians compose custom music. Of course, stock music can also be chosen, but this never matches the image. With a film like this you tell a story and want to make an impact. The sound plays an important role in this.

The music we composed for this film builds up when a climax is seen, then subsides and returns when special benefits come back into view. The whole thing was mixed in Surround Sound and completely tailored to the presentation space.
