THE CHALLENGE: RECYCLING A SPORTS FIELD IN UNDERSTANDABLE LANGUAGE
TenCate Grass comprises a group of international manufacturers, suppliers and installers of synthetic turf and athletics tracks with a shared mission to create the best and most durable synthetic surfaces for the sports and leisure industry. And when you talk about sustainable, you also talk about recycling. For recycling sports pitches, TenCate Grass brought Ecocept® to the market. A carpet pad construction for sports pitches that can be recycled at the end of the life cycle for a new carpet pad construction. But how do you explain the recycling process to the target group simply and in understandable language? C4Real came up with the solution: a 2D explanation animation.
How do you explain a complex story intelligibly?
THE SOLUTION: 2D EXPLANATION ANIMATION
Recycling a sports field involves a lot. Material from end-of-life sports fields must be collected, processed, harvested and recycled into new material. It seems simple, but it is quite a complicated process. In addition, we were instructed to design the production in such a way that it would be understood internationally. Moreover, there was a clear limit to the available budget. C4Real came up with the solution in the form of a 2D explanation animation. A 2D animation offers the possibility to clearly depict a complex process in sound and vision.

Het hele proces optimaal in kaart brengen, zodat alle stappen in het recyclingproces van sportvelden volledig duidelijk zijn en wij zelf ook geen vragen meer hebben. Dat is de basis. Daarna gaan we aan de slag met het vertalen van het complexe verhaal naar een eenvoudig en gemakkelijk te begrijpen versie. ‘Het verhaal versimpelen’, noemen we dat. Vervolgens maken we met storyboards de vertaling naar beeld. Dan wordt pas echt duidelijk of de productie ook wordt zoals de klant het bedoelt. Soms moet er nog wat aangepast worden, soms niet. Wanneer uiteindelijk het totale concept overeengekomen is, gaan we aan de slag met de productie van de animatie.

THE END RESULT
The end result is a clear 2D animation of the sports field recycling process. As a viewer, you are taken in the flow from the beginning to the end of the process. Including the USPs of the new carpet pad construction: shock resistant, water permeable and energy restoring. Icons from the TenCate library were used to visualize these USPs.
Voor de muziek is gebruik gemaakt van stockmuziek van bestaande loopjes welke er prima onder past. Ook is de animatie niet te lang, zodat deze ook op social media ingezet kan worden. Door te kiezen voor een 2D uitleganimatie is de kans dat klanten de uitleg onthouden veel groter en dit komt daarmee ook de naamsbekendheid van TenCate Grass Ecocept® ten goede. De 2D animatie is overigens ook ge-rebrand voor Tiger Turf®, een joint-venture van TenCate Grass.
