C4real takes councilor Welman into virtual reality on a global level.
Enschede 13 February 2017 – Patrick Welman, Alderman for Economy and Employment of the municipality of Enschede, has visited C4Real. The Alderman described this Enschede company, which creates 3D animations and Virtual Reality applications for technology companies worldwide, as a hidden gem in Twente. Welman has offered his help to establish connections both from the Municipality and from the platform Twente.com, to better position C4Real on the map.
The company C4Real helps technology companies to communicate their products simply and distinctively in a virtual manner to customers. During the business visit, the Alderman found himself in such a virtual world.

Visit C4Real
About 15 years ago, the Alderman was already one of the first testers of the virtual reality glasses that were available in the Netherlands at that time. Now, Welman noted that times have changed. During the visit, he took a VR training at C4Real that has been developed in collaboration with sister company Serious VR for Apollo Vredestein. Welman: “I felt like I was no longer at the C4Real office in Enschede, but that I was actually in a production hall of Vredestein operating a machine. The fact that you can replicate this so lifelike is a revolution in the field of training.”
During a tour of the C4Real studio, the Alderman noted that, in addition to virtual reality and 3D animations, other visual applications are also interesting. He was able to assemble a watch himself in an interactive 3D environment and view it from all angles, which can be used online as a sales tool.

Twente collaboration in India
In response to the Alderman's question about which project he is most proud of, Kuper answered: “As a team, we are very proud of the campaign we devised and created for Field in a Box from TenCate. A sports field, delivered in a container, that connects underprivileged children in various parts of the world through sports, thus offering them a better future. We went to the slums of Mumbai and Delhi to make a film. Additionally, we developed a 3D animation that explains the sports field and created an interactive 3D application in which organizations can view the field in 3D. Here, organizations can, among other things, place their own logo on the board around the field to convince them to invest in this social project.”

Software development or creativity
At least three times a week, Welman visits businesses in Twente to experience what is happening and to discuss with entrepreneurs how politics can best support them. He wondered, for example, whether C4Real only employs designers. The response from Director Ton Kuper was that it is precisely a mix of software developers and designers. The short lines with the UT and Saxion ensure a good inflow of talent and a connection with the region.
The Alderman sees challenges due to competition in the labor market but remains optimistic because of the knowledge that is present. Welman will soon encounter C4Real again at the Hannover Messe fair, where the company will stand together with Serious VR in the Holland Hightech & Smart Industry section. The municipality is present here with entrepreneurs from Twente and Gronau/Euregio.
