MISUNDERSTANDINGS DUE TO INTERCULTURAL MISCOMMUNICATION IN VISUAL LANGUAGE

MISUNDERSTANDINGS DUE TO INTERCULTURAL MISCOMMUNICATION IN VISUAL LANGUAGE

MISUNDERSTANDINGS DUE TO INTERCULTURAL MISCOMMUNICATION IN VISUAL LANGUAGE

‘I’d like to go into the sea with you’. Then the person to whom the message is directed is ready in his swimwear. And that was not the intention. It is one of the striking examples of miscommunication when there is too little knowledge and understanding regarding the language and culture of the other. At Undutchables, they know all about it. They mediate in international positions, including for expats. For a campaign, they wanted to depict such awkward situations that can arise from a misunderstanding. C4Real received this assignment and came up with the solution: through 2D explanatory animations.

THE SOLUTION: 2D EXPLANATORY ANIMATION!

How do you demonstrate the importance of good intercultural communication?

How do you demonstrate the importance of good intercultural communication?

The task was to illustrate uncomfortable situations that arise from a misinterpretation of cultural differences in a fun way and with a wink, to make the connection to Undutchables, where this does not happen - due to the knowledge about culture-bound behavior and habits of their candidates. Undutchables had worked out 3 typical situations for this. You already read about the first situation above, the 2nd situation concerned the invitation to lunch by a Frenchwoman (where it is customary to have longer lunches and often with wine) and the 3rd situation a gesture for the number 2 that is interpreted differently by an Englishman than by a Dutchman. C4Real has illustrated these situations with 2D explanatory animations. A 2D explanatory animation offers the possibility to depict the situation in a fun and light-hearted way in both image and sound.

THE PROCESS

Even when it has to be quick!

At C4Real, it is customary to start a production with an analysis on the subject. There follows a concept and a production phase. In this case, things were different. The client had already prepared the 3 examples and knew exactly what they wanted. C4Real could easily take this on and work it out further immediately. Within 1.5 days, the production was ready and to the client's full satisfaction. It can therefore also be quick!

THE FINAL RESULT

The end result is here. A smooth animation with 3 examples of intercultural miscommunication, clearly and light-heartedly illustrated. It immediately shows how a misunderstanding can cool the relationship between two business partners and lead to angry reactions.

By presenting recognizable situations in a fun and light-hearted way, there is a good chance that potential clients and candidates will remember the animation and spontaneously think of Undutchables. This relatively easily increases the awareness of Undutchables. Furthermore, the 2D animation is not too long, making it well-suited for posting on social media.
