Thales has won an innovation award for project OOG, in collaboration with TNO, NLR, TenCate, and Saxion Universities of Applied Sciences, for a solution aimed at reducing friendly fire.
Friendly fire remains a real and significant problem in military operations, where own troops inadvertently become targets during combat situations. To clarify how this technology contributes to preventing such incidents, C4Real developed a high-quality 3D product animation that clearly and convincingly explains the operation and impact of the system.

CHALLENGE
For Thales, one question was central: how do you make an extremely complex identification system understandable for people who have no technical background, but who do make decisions about funding and progress?
The system has been developed to quickly and reliably distinguish between friend and foe in operational environments. The technology behind it is advanced and based on data processing, signal interpretation, and real-time analysis. On paper, the story was complete, but in practice, it turned out that technical documentation and diagrams were insufficient to convey the impact and functioning to innovation committees and other stakeholders.
The challenge was therefore not to simplify the technology, but to make it comprehensible. It had to be made clear in a short time what the system does, how it works, and why it is essential for safety in critical situations.

SOLUTION
ZC4Real developed a high-quality 3D animation that visually and contextually explained the workings of the identification system. Instead of abstract explanations about data and processes, we brought the system to life within a realistic operational setting.
The animation shows how information is collected, how signals are processed, and how the system reaches a decision. By making the internal workings visible and directly linking this to practical application in the field, a clear and logical story emerged. Technical accuracy was maintained, while the presentation became accessible to a wider audience.
RESULT
Thanks to the visual translation, the complexity of the system became understandable within minutes. Stakeholders gained not only insight into the technology but also confidence in its reliability and added value.
The animation played an important role in convincing the innovation committee, resulting in financial support for the next development phase. Additionally, it fostered internal support and a shared understanding among the collaborating parties.
This case underlines that in high-tech innovations, it is not only the technology that is decisive, but also the way in which you present it. When complex systems are visualised clearly and persuasively, it accelerates decision-making and increases the chance of successful implementation.
